Extract audio from video or convert an audio file to MP3 or M4A.
Uploading
Only upload media you have permission to process. Inputs are removed after processing; results expire after 30 minutes. No account required.
What this tool does
Extract Audio saves the first audio track of a video — or converts an existing audio file — as an M4A or an MP3. When the source audio is already AAC, M4A output copies it bit-for-bit with no quality change; other codecs are converted to AAC.
M4A or MP3?
M4A (AAC) is the better default: it is the native audio format inside MP4 files and keeps AAC sources untouched. MP3 plays on the widest range of older devices and lets you pick 128, 192 or 320 kbps.
Supported formats and limits
Input: video (MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, AVI) or audio (MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG, FLAC) up to 128 MiB and 10 minutes; video sources are limited to 1080p. Output: M4A (AAC) or MP3.
Common errors and fixes
INVALID_FILE: the media has no readable audio track. UNSUPPORTED_FORMAT: use a listed container and extension combination. FILE_TOO_LARGE and VIDEO_TOO_LONG: the source exceeds the 128 MiB or 10-minute limit.
Good to know
Is audio copied without quality loss?
AAC audio is copied when exporting M4A. Other combinations are converted.
Can I keep lossless WAV or FLAC quality?
No. WAV and FLAC inputs are converted to AAC or MP3, which are lossy formats. For archiving, keep your original file; use this tool for convenient listening copies.
What happens to the video track?
It is discarded. The result is an audio-only file — video cannot be downloaded from this tool.
Which bitrate does M4A use?
When your source audio is AAC it is copied exactly as-is. Other sources are converted to AAC by the encoder at its standard quality setting.
Does it work with audio-only files?
Yes. Upload MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV, OGG or FLAC to convert them to M4A or MP3 — for example WAV to M4A to save space.
What are the file limits?
Up to 128 MiB, 10 minutes and 1920 pixels on either edge (2073600 total pixels; portrait supported), with up to 8 audio/video streams. Processing time depends on the operation. Uploads resume from the last completed chunk during this session; paused uploads expire after 15 minutes.
How long are files kept?
Inputs and temporary files are deleted after processing or failure. Download results within 30 minutes.
How to use Extract Audio
- Select an authorized mp4, mov, mkv, webm, avi, mp3, m4a, aac, wav, ogg, flac file.
- Choose the available options and start processing. Keep this browser session open — if you refresh, an in-flight task is offered for recovery on this page.
- Download the mp3 or m4a result before it expires. Keep your original file.
Converting between formats can change quality, and compression savings depend on the original codec and settings; some files may not become smaller.
